Remember logging in to Lumbridge in late 2004? Varrock square packed with people, the old chathead dialogue, no Grand Exchange, no Abyss, the 2004 music...

Scape04 is that game, with the 2004 content left exactly as it was. What HAS changed is everything that made 2004 annoying to play. We've added the quality-of-life features RuneScape picked up over the years, drawn in 2004's own art style so nothing looks out of place.

It's completely free. No donations, no store, nothing for sale, ever.

The game in its own window, built for playing (and AFKing) properly:
- Desktop alerts when your character stops doing anything, your Hitpoints get low, you run out of Prayer, a minute before the idle logout, when you're logged out, and (optionally) when someone private messages you. The taskbar button stays lit until you look, like RuneLite.
- Guides beside the game: Hiscores, Quest Guides, Skill Guides, Skill Calculators, Item and NPC Databases, World Map and News open right next to the game
- Full speed in the background (browsers slow a game tab down when you look away; the client doesn't)
- Saved logins, encrypted on your PC
- Screenshot button, plus automatic screenshots when you level up (or only at 99)
- Auto Sizing, 1x, 2x or 3x, Pixel or Smooth scaling, and Always on top
- Updates itself, and it's the same game as the browser. It never plays for you.
Windows 10/11 (installer), Ubuntu / Mint / Debian (.deb) and any Linux (AppImage).

🔍 INSPECT ANY PLAYER
One of the features I'm proudest of. Right-click anyone → Inspect and see exactly what they're wearing, on a slowly turning model of their character. It's laid out like RS3's equipment view but built entirely from 2004 pieces. Hover any item for its name.

Right next to it is Lookup: right-click a player (or their name in chat) to open their hiscores.

- OSRS Hitpoints, Prayer and Run orbs, with the real OSRS sprites
- XP drops and an XP counter with progress to your next level
- World map orb that opens the 2004 map right where you are, with a "you are here" marker
- Mouse-wheel zoom, middle-mouse camera turning, click the compass to face north
- Roofs hidden so you can click under them
- Mouse tooltips next to the cursor, and total level in the Skills tab

Little things that add up:
- Shift-click drop
- Space to continue dialogue, number keys for chat options, Esc closes windows, F-keys switch tabs
- 19-minute idle logout (2004's was 90 seconds!)
- Attack style and autocast remembered, even after logging out
- Toggling run no longer interrupts what you're doing
- Capes of Accomplishment (from 2007) with their emotes, sold by each skill's master at 99
- Server-wide announcements when someone gets a 99
- Plays on phones and tablets too

❓ QUICK FAQ
Is it really free? Yes. Nothing is for sale, no donations, no "premium". Members' content is open to everyone.

How do I make an account? There's no sign-up page. Type the name and password you want on the login screen, and if the name is free, the account is made for you.

Do I need the client? No. The browser version is the full game. The client adds alerts, the side panel and the other extras.

Is the client safe? It just shows the game's own web page, plus the extras above. It's unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen asks once: More info → Run anyway.

What about bots? The server watches for scripted clicking and other bot signs, and real people review anything it flags.

Is this affiliated with Jagex? No. Scape04 is an unofficial, non-commercial fan project. RuneScape is a trademark of Jagex Ltd.
